Cesol publishes pipe repair article
Composite laminates are an alternative of enormous possibilities in the repair of pipelines and pressure vessels in the petrochemical industry. Often, they allow the repair without the need to stop the line, avoiding the replacement of costly elements and stopping the advance of corrosion through the interface of the structural reinforcement in contact with the substrate.
The main obstacle to their introduction in the industry was the lack of standards. With the appearance, in 2006, of the international standard ISO/TS 24817, it became possible to carry out this type of repair using reliable and traceable procedures.
Henkel and Navec Group have jointly developed a structural laminate for this type of repair. To this end, a high-performance product was selected and qualified, repair procedures have been developed and application personnel have been trained and qualified according to the requirements of the standard, for the execution of this type of standardized repair.
This opens up a new repair procedure for the industry that can provide enormous cost savings and an advantageous alternative for the repair of equipment and installations in service.
